In my current work I am attempting to convey the feel of a dream or something conjured from a memory or an image created in the mind from external stimuli. Just as dreams range wildly in intensity, vividness, and mood, I attempt to capture those elements by using a multitude of mediums, textures, surface material, and reference material that I feel relate to those characteristics. I start each piece by layering in as much of the imagery and emotion I feel, see, or remember quickly and with little attention to keeping the imagery instantly recognizable. Through a process of reduction and addition I strip away and layer over existing elements, add strong representational imagery, and then reduce and layer again until what is left is a feeling, a memory, an exposed nerve, the essence of a dream.
